They will exist forever in my dreams,
Unchanged, my childhood memories
Undimmed
The grassy shadowed paths,
Dappled in sunlight
Strewn with faded leaves of autumn past
I will walk them once more.
My footsteps softly pressing
Into the dark dirt and mossy slopes
Or crunching up a sunlit hill,
Scattering gravel and acorns dropped
By squirrels.
They will forever be mine,
The trees of my growing up
Always the place of refuge and peace
Where my soul could rest
My eyes close
My spirit find the Spirit in the wind.
They are mine.
They are ephemeral, lit in my mind's eye
With an otherworldly light
Glowing golden,
Softly shimmering green
Brilliant in a thousand brightened leaves
Touched in sunlight
That beamed through pure white clouds
Out of a wide blue sky
That stretched further than my eye
Could see.
But that I knew
Was held in my Father's hand.
there is blood in my hand.
blood from my heart
spilling
gushing
trickling
in rivulets
darkening my skin,
crimsoning the earth under me.
there are tears on my neck.
salty rivers from my eyes
spilling
gushing
trickling
in rivulets
bathing my skin,
drenching the earth under me.
there is blood in my hand
tears on my skin
you i've said i loved
you who've said you loved me
leaving me reeling,
bleeding
crying
gasping for breath.
i write it when i want to, and i write it because some turning of a phrase or twist of several words together rings in my ears and i must.
it mostly will not rhyme. it will paint pictures in words, and make you feel feelings. unless i fail... and i most likely will. such is life.
